Born to parents whose cultures embodied traditions of Eastern Europe and
the Mediterranean, Mirani spent her formative years in the cultural
capitals of Salzburg, the Middle East and America. After music studies in the States and in Europe, her quest for
knowledge of the outside world grew paramount and Mirani embarked on what
would become a several year odyssey.
Armed with the fruits of rigorous study of age-old Semitic civilizations,
their languages and history, Mirani traveled south through Sinai’s desert
oasis, traveled with the Bedouins and fell in love with the colors and
magic of the Nile Delta . At the tip of the Red Sea, clear to the eye, lay
the cornerstones of the ancient world....the jewel of A Q A B A tucked
neatly in its center.
The impression would last forever.
Mirani
hoped one day she would be able to impart to others the dark
mystery and dazzling, sensual beauty she found. In Morocco's Midi-Atlas
mountains, she found age-old customs undisturbed and observed Berbers in
Marrakech and Fez use brilliant red and gold oils in their intricate work.
Upon returning to America, Mirani completed her formal education and
today holds two degrees from Columbia University.
A Q A B A
still on
her mind, Mirani returned to explore its mystery and magic in early 1993,
and several months later, the search for a single link embracing the
embodiment of ancient and modern worlds began.
